Simon Fraser University’s acclaimed Media Design unit is seeking a talented Web Developer. Three month contract to start, with possible extension to a year long contract depending on performance. Selected individual will work under general direction and is expected to be highly motivated, communicative and collaborative, taking responsibility for details and procedures. Overall results are reviewed against objectives. A high level of initiative is desirable.
Entrance Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Computing Science) and three years of experience in web-based technologies and software applications development.
- Proven ability to design, prototype and develop web environments using new web backend and frontend technologies including Python, PHP, JavaScript, Perl, shell scripts, ASP, HTML, CSS, Javascript, Flash, graphics, and video.
- Excellent knowledge of Django/Python is a must, Drupal is a bonus.
- Excellent knowledge of database management systems, especially MySQL and Postgres is a must.
- Excellent knowledge of cross-platform and cross-browser development issues is a must.
- Working knowledge of server migration is a must.
- Working knowledge of a range of other web technologies and practices such as Plone, WordPress, and multimedia authoring tools (e.g., Dreamweaver) and web delivery technologies (e.g., Apache, Tomcat).
- Demonstrated ability to write project documentation including user manuals, diagrams and requirement documents.
- Knowledge of current trends in interactive technologies.
- Knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator at an intermediate level.
- Demonstrated ability in leading projects.
- Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team in a project-based environment.
- Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Skills in shell scripting, Redhat Enterprise Server knowledge and Apache 2 configuration will be considered a bonus.
